Auditions
> Back to Join UsNew students are welcomed to our choir each September and January. Prior training is not necessary and all we require is that a child be able to attend rehearsals, have a desire to learn, and be able to "match pitch" (hear and sing back a note sung to them). A friendly audition is required for membership in the Apprentice, Premiere, Boys and Concert Choirs. No audition is required for the Debut Choir.
The audition for both the Apprentice and Premiere Choirs allows the director to check vocal potential, harmonic, rhythmic and listening skills. It also determines placement between Apprentice or Premiere Choir. The Concert Choir audition determines if the student shows vocal independence, and is musically ready to sing in this higher-level musical ensemble.
- The audition will take ten to fifteen minutes and will be conducted privately with the Director, chorister and parent.
- It allows the Director a chance to meet and welcome the singer, evaluate current vocal ability and prior musical background (if any).
- It is designed to be a positive experience for the child. They will always be encouraged during the evaluation.
- The audition consists of a vocal exercises demonstrated by the Director, a check for pitch and rhythmic accuracy, and an evaluation of vocal range for part placement. Potential Premiere and Concert Choir members will also be evaluated in harmonic exercises, and major, minor and chromatic scales/chords.
